Maurice

Acrylic on canvas 36x36in

Maurice came to life with one clear idea in mind: raccoons are smart, resourceful, and totally unstoppable when they set their minds on something. I wanted to paint a character who felt like a mastermind and a street-style icon all at once.

His look? Thrift-store meets dumpster dive—worn denim, cracked leather, old knits, and scraps of felt patched together with attitude. There’s a bit of wear and tear in every layer, on purpose. He doesn’t mind a fray; he makes it fashion.

The colors are bold but harmonious, and every texture was a joy to explore—gritty, soft, shiny, worn. But what truly steals the show are those blue-tinted sunglasses. Slightly crooked. Completely confident.

When I posted Maurice online, someone commented, “That’s your posture!” And the more I looked at him, the more I saw my dad—the way he stands, that quiet readiness in his shoulders. I replied with that thought, and suddenly, the comments filled with agreement.

That unexpected recognition made Maurice even more meaningful. He's more than a raccoon now—he’s a little piece of me, a little piece of my father, wrapped in attitude and thrifted charm.

Maurice is pure energy. A little wild, a little genius, and totally unforgettable.
