Rake & Wisp
Acrylic on canvas 36x24in
Abu Dhabi, April 2024
Rake and Wisp (Chimp Collection No. 4) may very well be extended family to Filbert and Chiselle. They’ve lived a parallel life—working the land, raising their own children, and growing closer with every passing year.
They are the kind of couple that smiles with their eyes. Sweet-hearted, calm, and quietly joyful. There’s a kindness in both their faces—a knowing that comes from having weathered the hard seasons and still choosing each other.
This painting was a rich technical challenge. I focused on floral fabrics, practicing the way patterns fold, curve, and shift in shadow. It was also the first time I used a magenta backdrop—an instinctive choice that brought out the deep richness of their fur and gave the whole composition a gentle boldness I didn’t expect, but loved.
Rake and Wisp aren’t flashy. They’re not looking for attention. But they hold a presence that makes you feel safe, seen, and maybe a little nostalgic.
They are love, aged well.
